Schützenfest Brake — Tradition in the Heart of Wesermarsch
The Schützenfest of the Braker Schützenverein e.V. is one of the traditional club events in the district town of Brake (Unterweser). As a combination of shooting club traditions, urban festival life, and club sociability, the Schützenfest has established itself as a firm date in the city's festival calendar over many decades. In 2026, according to the club's preliminary schedule, Saturday, July 11, is planned.
Bird Shooting in May and August
A special feature of the Braker Schützenverein are the bird shooting dates in May and August. They serve to determine the royal titles in various club departments — main club, ladies' department, junior shooters — and frame the actual Schützenfest in July. The bird shootings are internal competition dates, the results of which are celebrated at the Schützenfest.
Muster, Festival Parade, and King's Shooting
The Schützenfest itself follows the classic sequence: Muster of the marksmen at the Schützenhaus or festival grounds, welcome by the club board, festival parade through the town accompanied by a marching band or brass band, main king's shooting among the eligible members, and ceremonial proclamation of the new Schützenkönig (King).
King's Dinner and Dance Evening
Afterwards, the club invites guests to the King's Dinner — a convivial festive act with food, speeches, and honors for long-standing members. The dance evening with a live band forms the evening conclusion and the social highlight of the festival.
Meeting Point for the Town
As a Schützenfest in the district town, the Brake Schützenfest attracts guests from all parts of the town and the entire Wesermarsch region. Friendly shooting clubs, friendly clubs from the town, and political representatives traditionally participate. Admission to the festival events is free.
