Three days of tradition in the Bergen district — May 14th to 17th, 2026
The Schützenfest Becklingen is part of the dense landscape of marksmen's festivals in the Celle district. The district of the same name in the municipality of Bergen, located on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath, celebrates its club festival every year in early summer. Numerous marksmen's festivals follow one another over the Whitsun and May holidays in the region — Becklingen marks one of the first dates of the season with the weekend of May 14th to 17th, 2026.
As in almost all heathland villages, the Schützenverein is more than just a sports club: it is a social institution, the organizer of the most important village event of the year, and the custodian of a tradition that dates back to the 19th century or even further in many Lower Saxony towns. The king's shoot, the proclamation of the new marksmen's king, and the festival parade through the village form the fixed framework of every event.
Multi-day marksmen's festivals in the region follow a proven dramaturgy: dance evening or tent party on Friday, king's shoot and festival ball on Saturday, festival parade and morning pint on Sunday. In Becklingen, the festival in 2026 is extended over four days, with a king's dinner and a cozy conclusion on Monday.
Becklingen is located in the western part of the municipality of Bergen, in the Südheide natural area between Celle and Soltau. The municipality of Bergen is known beyond the region primarily for the Bergen-Belsen Memorial, but in the villages, a strong tradition of marksmen's clubs, agriculture, and harvest festivals continues. The Schützenfest Becklingen is one of these club festivals that shape social life in the village.
The detailed 2026 program will be communicated by the Schützenverein in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Festival grounds in the Bergen district of Becklingen. By car via the B 3 or B 71. Parking is available on the festival grounds and in the adjacent streets.
Ticket office on site. Dance evenings have an admission fee; morning pint and festival parade are traditionally free to attend.
If you want to experience several marksmen's festivals in the Celle district: The Celle District Marksmen's Association publishes the season calendar with all dates — Becklingen, Bannetze, Ahnsbeck, and many others follow from May to September.
