Traditional festival of the marksmen's association from 1840 — last Sunday of June 2026
The Bad Essen Marksmen's Association from 1840 looks back on 185 years of club history, making it one of the oldest marksmen's associations in the northeastern Osnabrücker Land. The Schützenfest is its central club event and an essential part of the identity of the Kneipp spa town of Bad Essen.
As tradition dictates, the Schützenfest takes place on the last Sunday of June 2026 — with festive evenings on the preceding day and possibly on Monday. The exact date and program schedule will be published by the association in spring 2026.
As is customary for Schützenfeste in the Osnabrücker Land, the festival includes a complete traditional program: Festive evening with dance, bird shooting, shooting for honorary medals, festive parade through Bad Essen with fanfares and marching bands, proclamation of the new royal couple, king's dinner, festive ball, and family day.
Bad Essen is a state-recognized Kneipp spa town located on the southern edge of the Wiehengebirge. With its historic old town, spa park, and well-maintained hiking trails, the community is a popular travel destination. The Schützenfest is part of a rich annual event calendar.
In a community like Bad Essen, marksmanship is part of civic culture. The association is not only the organizer of the annual festival but also offers sports shooting, youth work, and social events throughout the year. It is therefore a central pillar of community life — and the Schützenfest its most visible expression.
The location on the southern Wiehengebirge shapes the atmosphere of the festival. With views of wooded hills, proximity to the Mittelland Canal, and a historic old town, Bad Essen offers a unique setting for a traditional festival.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the association in spring. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
