A Club Celebrates 75 Years
The Schützenverein Aurich-Oldendorf e.V. was founded in 1951 and is one of the traditional clubs in the East Frisian municipality of Großefehn. The 75th anniversary in 2026 is the occasion for an extended festival program with two consecutive weekends. The club members are not only organizing their own Schützenfest but are also opening the grounds at Moorlager Weg for a broad accompanying program.
Anniversary Weekend May 23–25
The event kicks off with a festival ball on Friday evening (May 23rd). On Saturday, May 24th, a vintage car show with historic vehicles and a flea market will follow. This opens the festival far beyond the club family and invites visitors from all over the East Frisia region.
Main Festival May 29–31
The actual Schützenfest takes place in the classic style on the following weekend. Festival ball on Friday, May 29th, shooting competitions for club members and guest clubs, king's dinner, a parade through Aurich-Oldendorf, and finally the festive proclamation of the new shooting king. A sequence of events typical for North German Schützenfeste.
Significance for the Region
Schützenfeste are anchors of village club life in East Frisia. The anniversary festival in Aurich-Oldendorf is an occasion for intergenerational dialogue: older club members recall the club's history, younger marksmen carry on the tradition. NWZ Online and Facebook event pages have announced the double festival as a supra-regional highlight.
