Four-day marksmen's and folk festival with parade, King's Ball, and family afternoon in the heart of the Lüneburg Heath
As a marksmen's club, the Bürgergilde Munster e.V. is one of the oldest clubs in the town and has been organizing the Schützen- und Volksfest for generations. The club house and the Schützenplatz are located on the outskirts of town towards the heathland, at Zum Schützenwald 46. The close connection to the town of Munster is documented by a long-term cooperation agreement, which was renewed for another five years in early 2026.
The festival schedule follows a proven pattern in the region. On Thursday evening, the festival grounds are opened with a keg tapping ceremony and a musical program. On Friday, the marksmen's program takes center stage: company evenings, king's shooting, and bird shooting. On Saturday, the grand parade, the proclamation of the king, and the King's Ball take place. Sunday is designed as a family day, with reduced prices for amusement rides, a children's program, and a relaxed morning pint in the festival tent.
The parade on Saturday is the visual highlight of the weekend. Marksmen's companies in uniform, marching bands, drum corps, and decorated floats parade through Munster's town center to the Schützenplatz. In the evening, the King's Ball is celebrated in the festival tent: the new Schützenkönig is proclaimed, honored, and awarded the king's chain. Live music accompanies the festivities late into the night.
Sunday afternoon is explicitly reserved for families. Carousels, bouncy castles, and game stations are offered at reduced prices. The family afternoon is accompanied by performances from local clubs, dance groups, and drum corps. Coffee and cake are available in the festival tent.
Munster is a garrison town located in the Heidekreis district between Soltau and Uelzen. Alongside the Winter Ball and the Easter bonfire, the Schützen- und Volksfest is one of the Bürgergilde's three major annual events and attracts visitors from the entire Heidekreis as well as the neighboring Lüneburg region.
The festival schedule follows the proven pattern in Munster: opening on Thursday evening, marksmen's program on Friday, grand parade and King's Ball on Saturday, family afternoon and morning pint on Sunday. As in previous years, the Bürgergilde expects several thousand visitors from Munster and the entire Heidekreis district.
The highlight of the four days is the king's shooting, the result of which will be solemnly announced on Saturday evening with the proclamation of the new Schützenkönig. The king's chain will be presented in the festival tent, followed by the King's Ball.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
