Verkehrsverein Schöningen e.V. — 100 Years of Commitment

The Verkehrsverein Schöningen e.V. was founded in 1926 and has significantly shaped Schöningen's cultural and tourist profile over the past 100 years. Its work includes preserving historical heritage, organizing events, promoting tourism, and engaging with the town's history.

Association as a Cultural Actor

Over the decades, the Verkehrsverein has initiated or co-organized key Schöningen events — from the garden festival to the castle spectacle and the wine festival, as well as recurring local heritage events. Without the association's volunteer commitment, Schöningen's event culture would be significantly poorer.

Ceremony at the Town Hall

The official ceremony for the 100th anniversary will take place on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Schöningen Town Hall. The late Gothic town hall, with its representative ceremonial hall, provides a fitting setting. The mayor, representatives of the City of Schöningen, the Helmstedt district, and friendly associations will deliver greetings and honor the association's commitment.

Presentation of the Association's Chronicle

A central part of the program is the presentation of the association's chronicle. 100 years of the association's history will be documented and prepared for posterity. The chronicle sheds light on the early years, periods of crisis, the post-World War II reconstruction phase, developments in the Federal Republic, and the association's recent years.

Concert by the Hannover Airport Brass Band

The musical highlight is a concert by the Hannover Airport Brass Band. This brass band is a well-known amateur ensemble with a high-quality repertoire — ranging from classical brass music and film scores to modern arrangements. The performance in Schöningen is a minor sensation and underscores the tribute to the anniversary.

Anniversary Year 2026

The ceremony is the highlight of a full anniversary year. The garden festival on May 31, 2026, the castle spectacle in July, and other events are already under the 100-year banner. The ceremony officially celebrates the anniversary.
