For almost two decades, the Schloßplatz OpenAir-Kino has been a firm fixture of the Pirmasens late summer. With its 17th edition in 2026, the event is well-established and one of the reliable classics on the event calendar. The City Marketing and Tourism department of Pirmasens organizes the series and ensures low-threshold accessibility with free admission.

Schlossplatz as an Open-Air Cinema Hall

Schlossplatz in the heart of Pirmasens' city center is the ideal location. With its central position, size, and historic backdrop, it offers an atmosphere that a classic multiplex cinema cannot provide. The screen is set up, chairs and picnic blankets find their place on the cobblestones, and as dusk falls, the open-air film enjoyment begins.

Three Evenings, Three Films

On three consecutive evenings — from Thursday, September 3rd to Saturday, September 5th, 2026 — three films will be shown. The selection varies from year to year and aims to appeal to a broad audience: current box office hits, family films, comedies, or sophisticated works alternate. The exact program will be announced by the organizer in late summer.

Practical Information

You are welcome to bring your own seating — picnic blankets, folding chairs, or cushions. Popcorn is available on-site. In case of bad weather, the Lutherkirche serves as an alternative venue, ensuring that screenings can take place even in unfavorable conditions.
