Bürgerfest Kastellaun

In 2026, the Bürgerfest Kastellaun looks back on its 47th edition, making it one of the oldest continuously celebrated town festivals in the Hunsrück region. Over almost five decades, it has evolved from a simple civic reception into a two-day festival weekend with an extensive program. The festival is organized by the city of Kastellaun together with the Werbe- und Fördergemeinschaft Kastellaun, an association of local retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers.

The venue is the historic city center of Kastellaun, including Kornmarkt, Bahnhofstraße, and the adjacent squares. The compact old town with its remnants of town walls and castle ruins provides a picturesque backdrop for market stalls, stages, the festival tent, and the flea market activities.

The program on Saturday, September 26, 2026, is dedicated to music. A Long Music Night with several stages and diverse genres—from rock and pop to cover bands, dialect music, and folk music—ensures a lively atmosphere late into the night. The visual highlight is a fireworks display that crowns the festive evening.

Sunday, September 27, 2026, is the traditional Sunday Shopping day. Between 1 PM and 6 PM, the shops in Kastellaun's city center—boutiques, fashion stores, shoe shops, bookstores, and drugstores—open their doors outside of regular Sunday hours. Special spring and autumn promotions, window displays, and occasional special discounts make the day attractive for browsing and shopping.

Parallel to Sunday Shopping, a large flea market takes place in Bahnhofstraße. Private sellers and commercial vendors offer everything from clothing, books, toys, and household goods to antiques, bric-a-brac, and curiosities that will delight collectors. The flea market is known beyond the town's borders and attracts bargain hunters from the entire Hunsrück and the Middle Rhine region.

The program is complemented by a culinary offering at various stalls, a children's program with games and interactive activities, and the involvement of local clubs—sports, music, fire department, religious communities—who participate with their own contributions and stands.
