Family-friendly early summer festival in the historic castle garden of the castle town Katzenelnbogen
Katzenelnbogen, once the residence of the mighty Counts of Katzenelnbogen, proudly preserves its history – and with festivals that bring together historical settings and present-day club culture. The Schlossgartenfest is one of the most beautiful examples of this tradition.
The venue is the Schlossgarten, located behind the walls of the former castle complex, which opens up into a green space for stages and markets on festival days. Stalls are set up along the edges, bands and groups play in the centre, and culinary offerings are available at the Stadthalle.
The programme focuses on diversity. Various musical ensembles – from the local big band to singer-songwriters – perform on the main stage. Theatre or small performative contributions complement the musical focus. An upcycling market brings together regional vendors who turn old into new – a concept that has steadily grown in recent years and gives the festival an additional profile.
For families, the Schlossgarten offers plenty of space; children find play and craft activities while parents browse at their leisure. The culinary offerings are regionally anchored – Westerwald specialities, cakes from club efforts, drinks from the Aar-Einrich district.
Advance ticket sales for the stage programmes usually start about six weeks before the festival. The Verbandsgemeinde Aar-Einrich publishes current information.
With the 2026 edition, the Schlossgartenfest continues its cultural aspirations. The combination of music, theatre, upcycling, and social gathering is a unique format in the Westerwald-Lahn region and ensures a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere for the day.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
