Herb and medicinal plant tours in the most important English landscape garden in Rhineland-Palatinate
The Schlossgarten Herrnsheim was designed in the early 19th century based on English models and, with its 10.5 hectares, is one of the largest and most significant landscape gardens in Rhineland-Palatinate. Characteristic features include winding paths, free-standing groups of native and exotic trees, wide meadows, a picturesque pond, and carefully designed sightlines that integrate the castle and garden into a harmonious composition.
The neoclassical Schloss Herrnsheim, which shaped the Heyl family — known as Worms' leather industrialists — from the 19th century onwards, stands at the heart of the estate. The park was initially a private pleasure garden and was later opened to the public. Today, the castle houses the Heyl Library and is available for weddings and cultural events.
The Schlossgarten is a habitat for a remarkable array of plants: old tree giants, herb beds, wildflower meadows, and an adjacent herb garden attract both botany enthusiasts and those seeking relaxation. Regular themed tours — such as those on medicinal and culinary herbs, tree diversity, or garden history — make the knowledge about the estate accessible.
The Pentecost tours, held annually around Pentecost, are particularly popular and offer a detailed insight into the history and vegetation. The dates are communicated via the Herrnsheim local administration and the city of Worms.
Schlosspark Herrnsheim is the venue for several public guided tours offered annually. The Pentecost tour on May 24, 2026, at 1 PM, is a fixed date in Worms' cultural calendar and lasts about 90 minutes, leading through the grounds — from the castle forecourt and the herb garden to the historic tree groups.
Additional thematic tours will be offered throughout the season. The exact dates for 2026 will be published on the city of Worms' event page (worms.de) and via the Herrnsheim local administration.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
