Roman camp, gladiator fights and crafts on the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Lower Germanic Limes
Remagen was founded by the Romans as Rigomagus and was part of the Lower Germanic Limes, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage site 'Borders of the Roman Empire' since 2021. The RIGOMAGVS Roman Festival picks up on this history and makes it tangible for a weekend: With reenactment groups, Roman craftspeople, gladiators, and its own Roman school for children, a lively history festival is created in the middle of the old town.
The central Roman camp will be set up in the old town, offering insights into the military life of the Roman garrison. Highlights include the gladiator fights, performed several times daily with historical accuracy and choreographed precision. In addition, there will be demonstrations by archers, riders, and legionaries.
Reenactors demonstrate Roman crafts in live shows: pottery, glassblowing, leatherworking, metal processing, and textile techniques are demonstrated directly before the eyes of the visitors. Those who wish can try their hand or talk to the craftspeople. The format conveys ancient ways of life much more vividly than any schoolbook.
The Roman School is a dedicated children's program where young guests can use Roman writing tablets, learn Latin words, create mosaics, or march as legionaries. The playful approach makes the festival a special event for families. Admission is free, which also includes day visitors and those who decide at short notice.
The 2026 anniversary program highlights the historical significance of Remagen as Rigomagus. Reenactment groups from across the German-speaking world will travel for the weekend and present a packed schedule of demonstrations, show fights, and interactive stations.
The full daily schedule for 2026 will be published by the organizer in advance at remagen.de. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
