Open-air Schlager weekend on the Elbe — Sandau town park in high summer
Sandau (Elbe) is a small town in the Stendal district, located directly on the right bank of the Elbe — where the water flows wide, slow, and untamed through the Altmark region. Here, in the picturesque town park, the Schlagerparty Sandau takes place every summer: two days of open-air programming centered around Schlager music, Discofox, and good cheer. The town itself is the organizer, and over the years the event has grown into a firm fixture in the region's summer calendar.
Anyone familiar with the event knows: this isn't about a gigantic Schlager spectacle, but rather a down-to-earth Volksfest (public festival) atmosphere where Schlager music remains the central soundtrack. Bands, DJs, along with culinary stands, a well-stocked drinks cart, and the warm light of an August evening on the Elbe.
Sandau (Elbe) belongs to the Elbe-Havel-Land collective municipality in the Stendal district and thus to the Altmark — a landscape in northern Saxony-Anhalt known for its wide skies, brick Gothic architecture, and its quiet significance in Hanseatic history. Sandau itself can look back on over 1000 years of history and boasts one of the region's oldest structures, the late Romanesque St. Nicholas Church. The Schlagerparty complements this historical setting with an unpretentious summer festival — and draws visitors from all over the western Altmark to the town each year.
The Schlagerparty runs from the afternoon/evening on both days, featuring bands or Schlager acts on stage followed by a DJ set. The age mix is broad, and the family-friendly format works well. It's no wonder that the Sandau Schlagerparty is a fixed date in the summer calendar for many Altmark residents.
