The big free city festival with 60+ hours of live music
The name SchlabbeflickerFestival is a confident statement of Pirmasens' identity. Schlabbeflicker — Palatinate dialect for shoe mender or shoemaker — is the nickname of the people of Pirmasens, recalling the city's shoe industry tradition. Pirmasens was one of Germany's most important shoe cities in the 19th and 20th centuries; the leather industry still plays a role today. The festival embraces this identity and uses it as a hook for a modern, cheerful city festival.
The festival runs for three days and uses three locations in the city center — typically squares and streets that are closed off for the event. The stages host well over 60 hours of live music. This scale makes the festival one of the largest free open-air music events in the West Palatinate region.
The program aims for diversity. Cover bands, rock, pop, jazz, regional acts, and national guests are all represented. The different stages allow for different moods — one stage rocks, while another offers quieter music. Music lovers can forge their own festival path through the city.
In addition to music, impressive art performances are part of the concept. Street theater, walking acts, visual arts, and interactive installations complement the stage program. Hands-on activities invite the audience to get involved — from dance workshops to creative stations for children.
The grand finale is a musical highlight with fireworks. When exactly this moment on Sunday will take place and which act will provide the musical accompaniment will be communicated in advance. The fireworks over the city center have been an emotional conclusion for years, experienced together by thousands of visitors.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: three stages, a diverse music program, performances, and family offerings, culminating in a highlight with fireworks. The festival utilizes the central squares of the city center, making the weekend a summer experience for all generations.
The detailed program for 2026, including band lists for each stage, performance times, and featured acts, will be published by the City of Pirmasens in early summer.
Detailed band lists, stage plans, and special activities will be communicated via the City of Pirmasens.
