Schalmei-Guggen Meeting — when eleven hours of brass don't tire you out

Eibenstock is a mining town in the southwestern Ore Mountains district, located at around 600 meters altitude on the edge of the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park. Every two years, LEC GmbH organizes the International Schalmei and Guggenmusik Meeting together with the town — an event that has a firm place in the calendar of the Central German brass scene and is deliberately designed to be maximalist with eleven hours of non-stop programming.

The event combines two genres that are often confused in German-speaking countries: Schalmei music (with Schalmeien — historical woodwind instruments —, drums, and fanfares) is a tradition primarily from the former GDR and the Ruhr area, with a strict marching character. Guggenmusik is the carnival brass art from the Alpine region, deliberately quirky and humorous. In Eibenstock, both come together: the bands march in the morning, perform throughout the day, and conclude with a laser show and a joint concert of all participants.

Wurzelrudis Erlebniswelt as the Venue

Wurzelrudis Erlebniswelt is a leisure facility on the outskirts of Eibenstock, featuring a summer toboggan run, an observation tower, and event spaces. For the Schalmei Meeting, the area becomes an open-air stage: a huge umbrella structure suspended from a crane provides weather-independent space for the audience. The concept aims for family-friendliness — play areas for children, catering, observation tower.

Eibenstock and the Upper Ore Mountains

Eibenstock is part of the "Ore Mountains Mining Region" World Heritage site. The town is located between Auersberg and the Westerzgebirgsklöber, in the headwaters of the Mulde river. Visitors to the Schalmei Meeting should take time for a hike up the Auersberg (1019 m) or a visit to the mining town of Schwarzenberg.

Schalmei-Guggen Meeting Eibenstock — edition 2026

The International Schalmei and Guggenmusik Meeting Eibenstock will take place in its next regular edition in 2026. Eleven hours of non-stop brass music with a parade of bands, an evening laser show, and a joint finale concert. Venue: Wurzelrudis Erlebniswelt.

As the meeting only takes place in even-numbered years, 2026 is a regular event year. The town of Eibenstock and LEC GmbH will announce the exact date and the list of participating bands a few weeks before the festival. The concept follows the established pattern of previous editions.
