A Neighborhood Idea with Format

The Saarner Feierabend is a rather understated specialty of Mülheim's Saarn district: not a one-off major festival, but a monthly repetition from April to October. Every first Wednesday evening of the month, Pastor-Luhr-Platz transforms into an outdoor lounge, intended as a transition from the workday to the summer evening. This makes the format unique: those who have seen it once will come back the following month.

When and Where Does the Feierabend Take Place?

The Saarner Feierabend 2026 runs on the first Wednesday of each month from April to October, at Pastor-Luhr-Platz in Mülheim-Saarn:

Opening hours are 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Free admission.

What to Expect

• Street Food Stalls with burgers, crêpes, grilled items, and sweet specialties
• Wine Bulli (wine van) and sparkling wine stand with summer drinks
• Rotary Grill Stand with sausages (Rotary Club Mülheim Uhlenhorst)
• DJ Set – musically accompanied by DJ Dennis Weiler
• Seating Lounge with beer benches and high tables

Saarn Business Association as Organizer

Behind the Saarner Feierabend is the Werbegemeinschaft Saarn e.V., the association of local retailers and restaurateurs. The association organizes the stage, stand permits, and promotion. The retailers provide offerings from the district – the format only works because the local businesses support it.

Saarn – The Village in Mülheim

Saarn is one of Mülheim an der Ruhr's most beautiful districts, with a rural-looking town center that is more reminiscent of a small Bergisches town than a Ruhr area district. Pastor-Luhr-Platz is the heart of this village within the big city – with shops, cafés, and a church. It is precisely this atmosphere that makes the Saarner Feierabend more than just a street food market: it is neighborhood culture in its most authentic form.

Mülheim an der Ruhr

Mülheim, with around 170,000 inhabitants, is an independent city in the western Ruhr area, located between Essen, Duisburg, and Oberhausen. It is known primarily for the Stinnes family (heavy industry), the Tengelmann Foundation, and the Ruhr meadows. Saarn is located in the south of the city, nestled between Ruhr meadows and forests, with its own identity and community life.
