Monthly afterwork outdoor market in Mülheim's Saarn district – every first Wednesday from April to October from 5 PM at Pastor-Luhr-Platz
The Saarner Feierabend is a rather understated specialty of Mülheim's Saarn district: not a one-off major festival, but a monthly repetition from April to October. Every first Wednesday evening of the month, Pastor-Luhr-Platz transforms into an outdoor lounge, intended as a transition from the workday to the summer evening. This makes the format unique: those who have seen it once will come back the following month.
The Saarner Feierabend 2026 runs on the first Wednesday of each month from April to October, at Pastor-Luhr-Platz in Mülheim-Saarn:
Opening hours are 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Free admission.
Behind the Saarner Feierabend is the Werbegemeinschaft Saarn e.V., the association of local retailers and restaurateurs. The association organizes the stage, stand permits, and promotion. The retailers provide offerings from the district – the format only works because the local businesses support it.
Saarn is one of Mülheim an der Ruhr's most beautiful districts, with a rural-looking town center that is more reminiscent of a small Bergisches town than a Ruhr area district. Pastor-Luhr-Platz is the heart of this village within the big city – with shops, cafés, and a church. It is precisely this atmosphere that makes the Saarner Feierabend more than just a street food market: it is neighborhood culture in its most authentic form.
Mülheim, with around 170,000 inhabitants, is an independent city in the western Ruhr area, located between Essen, Duisburg, and Oberhausen. It is known primarily for the Stinnes family (heavy industry), the Tengelmann Foundation, and the Ruhr meadows. Saarn is located in the south of the city, nestled between Ruhr meadows and forests, with its own identity and community life.
The 2026 season of Saarner Feierabend includes seven dates between April and October. The organizer is the Saarn Business Association (Werbegemeinschaft Saarn e.V.), with DJ support from DJ Dennis Weiler.
Free admission. Food, wine, sparkling wine, and beer at the stalls are payable.
By public transport: Bus line 134 or 138 from Mülheim Hauptbahnhof or Essen Steele to Saarn Dorf. By car via the A52 (exit Mülheim-Heimaterde) or the B1.
Parking spaces in the surrounding streets and at Klostermarkt. Lively when the weather is good – arrive on time.
Free admission. Food and drinks at the stalls are payable.
Street food stalls, wine and sparkling wine van, beer benches and high tables, DJ set in the center of the square. Toilets available in nearby restaurants.
Arrive at 5 PM for the opening when the DJ set starts relaxed, or around 7 PM for the peak time. Those who want to get to know Saarn can combine the Feierabend with a walk through the village center or to the cloister church. The event will take place even in case of rain, with some stalls being covered.
