August 15th (Assumption Day) is a public holiday in both France and Saarland – traditionally in Saarland, and as a national Catholic holiday in France. In Rhineland-Palatinate, however, it is a regular working day. This constellation makes August 15th an ideal date for a festival weekend that draws Saarland and French guests to the Rhineland-Palatinate city center.

Three Festival Days with Their Own Accent

Friday, August 14th: Opening at 5 PM with programming until 10 PM – market, stage, and catering offerings begin. Saturday, August 15th: Main festival day from 4 PM. Highlights include a Cosplay Meetup with a parade from Hallplatz to Schlossplatz, and a symbolic border opening at Hallplatz – a political and cultural gesture addressing the integration of the Greater Region. Sunday, August 16th: Shops open on Sunday with an additional market experience.

Street Food Festival in Parallel

From August 14th to 16th, the Street Food Festival runs concurrently on Schlossplatz, featuring food trucks offering German, French, and Saarland cuisine.
