Rosenmontagszug of the Große Engerser Karnevalsgesellschaft von 1855 e.V. starting at 2:11 PM in the Engers district
The Engers district has been part of Neuwied since 1970 but has retained its independent identity — primarily through the baroque Schloss Engers on the Rhine bank, which today houses the Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Academy). The Große Engerser Karnevalsgesellschaft von 1855 e.V. is one of the oldest carnival societies in the Middle Rhine region and shapes the social life in Engers beyond the carnival season.
The Rosenmontagszug winds through the main streets of the Engers district. Walking groups, dance troupes, music bands, and decorated floats from local clubs and friendly carnival societies participate. Sweets (Kamellen) and small gifts (Strüsje) are thrown to the street audience. Families with children, residents, and guests from other Neuwied districts line the route.
A special feature of Engers' Rose Monday is the After-Zoch-Party starting at 4 PM directly at Schloss Engers. In the representative rooms of the baroque building, the carnival day concludes with live music, a DJ, dancing, and refreshments — an unusual combination of baroque architecture and carnival revelry.
The Rosenmontagszug is the culmination of an extensive carnival season, which the Engerser Karnevalsgesellschaft organizes with sessions, balls, "Kappensitzungen" (costumed meetings), and events for different generations.
The route and assembly points will be published by the organizer in February 2026. The proven route starts with assembly in the late morning in the area of the main access roads and the parade begins punctually at 2:11 PM.
