About Rosenmontagszug Eschelbach

The Rosenmontagszug Eschelbach is one of the rare Rose Monday parades in the Westerwaldkreis. Most Westerwald communities deliberately organize their carnival parades on Saturday or Sunday so as not to compete with Cologne, Mainz, and Düsseldorf — Eschelbach, however, dares to take the step and offers its own Rose Monday experience in the Westerwald.

In 2026, the parade starts on Rose Monday, February 16th, at the festive time of 2:11 PM. Afterwards, the big after-parade party takes place in the Waldbachhalle, where the celebration continues late into the night with music, dancing, and refreshments.

Rose Monday in the Westerwald — A Special Occasion

While the major carnival strongholds of Cologne, Mainz, and Düsseldorf claim the media spotlight on Rose Monday, most Westerwald communities organize their parades on the preceding days (Carnival Saturday and Sunday). Those who want to experience a carnival parade in the Westerwald on Rose Monday have few opportunities — Eschelbach is one of them and thus a welcome date for carnival enthusiasts from the region.

Eschelbach

The municipality of Eschelbach is located in the Selters (Westerwald) collective municipality. The small Westerwald community proudly maintains its independent carnival tradition. The carnival club brings an astonishing amount of volunteer commitment to the streets year after year.

The Parade

The Rosenmontagszug winds its way along the main street through the village center. Floats with thematic mottos, often with a wink at local politics or social criticism, alternate with walking groups in elaborate costumes. Brass bands, Guggenmusik groups, and carnival bands set the rhythm. Thrown items like Kamelle (sweets) and promotional items are generously distributed to the crowd.

After-Parade Party in the Waldbachhalle

After the parade, the celebrating crowd moves to the Waldbachhalle, the heart of Eschelbach's club life. The big after-parade party begins there: live music or a DJ, Kölsch-style mood classics, and Westerwald carnival hits get the dance floor rocking. Songs are sung, people sway arm-in-arm, and dance late into the night — the hall offers necessary protection from the often cool February weather.
