Two days of lifestyle, garden, and arts and crafts in the baroque castle park overlooking the Nahe valley
The Romantic Garden Festival at Schloss Dhaun is one of the most atmospheric lifestyle events in the Nahe region. Across approximately 10,000 square meters of castle park, exceptional exhibitors, artists, and service providers present their offerings related to garden, plants, living, fashion, and lifestyle over a weekend in May. The setting is extraordinary: Schloss Dhaun has perched on a spur above the Hahnenbachtal since the 12th century and is considered one of the most beautiful castle complexes in the region.
The 2026 edition is the ninth of its kind. Families, garden enthusiasts, design lovers, and gourmets will find a carefully curated mix of rare plants, handcrafted garden decorations, furniture, clothing, jewelry, and culinary specialties – all set within the romantic atmosphere of the baroque castle park.
When the lilac blooms within the walls of Schloss Dhaun in early May and the trees of the castle park unfurl their fresh green, around 100 carefully selected exhibitors transform the historic grounds into an accessible showcase for everything that has a name and reputation in the realms of garden, lifestyle, and enjoyment. The Romantic Garden Festival differs from conventional plant fairs through its curation principle: each exhibitor is selected individually to guarantee a homogeneous and high-quality mix.
The focus is on rare perennials, roses, herbs, old fruit and vegetable varieties, Mediterranean potted plants, and bonsai. In addition, manufacturers from all over Germany present garden furniture, sculptures, water features, planters made of bronze, stone, and terracotta, high-quality tools, and outdoor textiles. Specialists offer advice on nature-oriented garden design, permaculture, bee-friendly planting, and raised bed cultivation.
A second focus is on arts and crafts and lifestyle: ceramic artists, jewelry designers, leatherworkers, hat makers, and fashion designers present their collections. Particularly popular are the stalls with hand-woven scarves, linen fashion, natural cosmetics, fragrances, bookbinding, and paper art. In the castle's inner courtyard, culinary stalls offer regional wines from the Nahe wine region, cheese specialties, homemade pralines, olive oil, and Nordic specialties.
Schloss Dhaun boasts an 800-year history. Built in the early 12th century as the castle of the Wild- and Rheingrafen, the complex was converted into a baroque residential palace in the 17th century and destroyed by the French in the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689. Today, the castle houses a castle academy, a hotel, and conference rooms. The castle park, where the garden festival takes place, offers a unique view into the Hahnenbachtal and the surrounding Hunsrück hills.
The 9th edition of the Romantic Garden Festival Schloss Dhaun takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026 (11 AM–7 PM) and Sunday, May 10, 2026 (11 AM–6 PM). Across approximately 10,000 m² of castle park, exceptional exhibitors, artists, and service providers present their offerings related to garden, lifestyle, and arts and crafts.
