Traditional Kirchweih in Rodalben with festival tent, showmen, and live music
Rodalben maintains an unusually dense festival calendar. With the Grünesputschefest in August, the town has one of the largest city festivals in the Westpfalz region, with the Rodalben Kerwe in September, another important Volksfest date, and with the Christmas market in December, an Advent highlight. This diversity reflects the active club culture and the tourist potential of the small town in the Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest).
The Kerwe (Kirchweih) is one of the central Volksfeste of the Palatinate. Originally commemorating the consecration day of the town church – in Rodalben, the Catholic parish church of Mariä Geburt (St. Mary's Birth) – the Kerwe has developed into a Volksfest that mobilizes the entire town community. It follows a proven dramaturgy with an opening, main festival day, morning pint, and winding down.
The spatial center is Lindersbachstraße 37, where the large festival tent is located. Stage concerts and dance events take place here. The festival tent is complemented by catering stands of the clubs in the surrounding area and showman businesses – carousels, candy stalls, small rides for children and families.
The culinary side follows Palatinate tradition: Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork and potatoes), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Flammkuchen (thin crust pizza-like dish), Wurstsalat (sausage salad), Pommes (fries). Accompanied by draft beer, Palatinate wine, and Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water). The clubs cook on a voluntary basis, and the proceeds flow back into the club's activities.
Rodalben is located in the Pfälzerwald, in the valley of the Rodalb river, nestled between the wooded mountains of the Wasgau region. The famous Rodalber Felsenwanderweg (Rodalben Rock Hiking Trail) – one of the most beautiful circular hikes in Germany – connects the town with the spectacular sandstone rocks of the Pfälzerwald. The Kerwe is an opportunity to get to know both the town and the natural landscape.
The Kerwe is organized by the town of Rodalben with the local clubs. Current program details in the pfalz.de event calendar.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years.
