Indie and Hip-Hop Festival on the Gieseckenbleek meadow in Elend (Harz)
From the Brocken, you can hear it down into the valley between fir trees and mist: Rocken am Brocken is the indie and hip-hop festival that pulls the Harz out of its quiet hiking routine every end of July. On the Gieseckenbleek meadow in Elend, a district of Oberharz am Brocken, a small universe of stages, bars, food trucks, and campsites emerges for a weekend — surprisingly green, surprisingly familiar, and with a crowd that shows more band t-shirts and indie hipsters simultaneously than any other German festival.
The 2026 lineup clearly focuses on the new German-language wave: Esther Graf, Marlo Grosshardt, Fiora, Lara Hulo, Muryel, Pöbel MC are confirmed; in March, Swiss + Die Andern, MARIA ISKARIOT, and the British Big Special were added. Its own Hexenwerk Stage is a nod to the Hexenwerk Open Air, which was discontinued in the immediate vicinity in 2024, bringing back its DIY spirit as a tribute.
Elend belongs to the municipality of Oberharz am Brocken in the Harz district, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The location is unbeatable: Schierke, the Brocken plateau, and the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways are just a ridge away, as is the Bodetal valley. Those who use the festival to get to know the Harz often combine the three festival days with a hike up the Brocken or a trip to Wernigerode (15 km). The festival takes inclusion and accessibility seriously — the website even uses the OpenDyslexic font for people with dyslexia.
The festival runs on two main stages plus the newly introduced Hexenwerk Stage, honoring the discontinued sister festival. A maximum of 6,000 visitors per day — just big enough for real headliner sets, small enough not to get lost in anonymity. Camping is included in the ticket, and food trucks offer vegetarian and vegan options.
Exact set times will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival at brocken.rocks.
By train to Wernigerode, then take the Harz Narrow Gauge Railway to Elend or the festival shuttle. By car via A395 → B27 to Elend, paid festival parking available. Caution: Access only via official routes, village streets are narrow.
3-day festival pass with camping included. Ticket cancellation insurance included in the price up to 8 days before the festival begins.
Large campsite directly at the grounds, separate caravan pitches. Family zone available.
Dedicated platform at the main stage, accessible sanitary facilities. Registration recommended.
