Riol Wine and Sparkling Wine Festival

The Riol Wine and Sparkling Wine Festival will take place on July 16th and 17th, 2026, on the Moselle riverbank in Riol, and is the second major wine event by the Riol vintners in the summer season – following the June festival “Zum Wohl Riol”. While the latter focuses on a grand wine tasting, the July event highlights a specialty that has gained significant importance in the region in recent years: Riol sparkling wine.

Sparkling wine production on the Moselle traditionally follows high standards. Several Riol wineries have specialized in the production of sparkling wines or offer a carefully vinified range of sparkling wines alongside their still wine line. At the Wine and Sparkling Wine Festival, they present their products directly on the banks of the Moselle: Riesling sparkling wine from classic bottle fermentation, Burgundy sparkling wine, or even cuvées with different dosage profiles.

The venue is the open-air atmosphere directly on the Moselle, just a few steps from the Moselle Cycle Path. This makes the festival attractive not only for those arriving by car but also for cyclists and hikers who stop by. The vintners' stalls are complemented by snack and catering options with regional specialties, and live music usually provides the festive setting.

Riol is located in the Trier-Saarburg district between Trier and Schweich, is part of the Schweich collective municipality, and lies on the Roman Wine Route. Its accessibility via the B53 and the Trier-Koblenz railway line, combined with its direct location on the Moselle Cycle Path, makes the Wine and Sparkling Wine Festival a classic summer excursion destination in the Trier region.
