Grand open-air city festival in the historic Weser town with three stages and 46 hours of live music
The Rintelner Altstadtfest runs from Friday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 16th, 2026, turning the historic city center into a vibrant festival stage. On three stages, spread across the central squares and alleys of the old town, bands from the Weserbergland and the wider region play almost continuously. The cumulative playing time adds up to around 46 hours of live music, making the Altstadtfest one of the most musically dense city festivals in Lower Saxony.
The musical program ranges from rock and pop to cover and dance bands, acoustic sets, soul, funk, and regional folk music. The organizers ensure a broad spectrum so that every generation of visitors can find their suitable soundtrack. Between the stages, the audience wanders through the festively decorated old town, discovering new musical highlights.
Local restaurateurs, clubs, and stall operators provide a diverse culinary offering: bratwurst, burgers, crêpes, vegetarian options, ice cream, cocktails, regional beer, and much more. The Sunday with open shops also livens up the city center's businesses, making the festival weekend an invitation to go shopping.
Rinteln is located on the Weser river in the north of the Weserbergland and, with its historic old town, university tradition, and charming location between mountain ranges, is a popular travel and excursion destination. The Altstadtfest showcases the town at its most beautiful and festive, attracting guests from far beyond the Weserbergland every year.
From Friday evening to Sunday evening, Rinteln's old town becomes one large festival ground. The three stages entertain the audience simultaneously; those who wish can wander from stage to stage, discovering different musical atmospheres. The Sunday with open shops adds a shopping dimension, making the festival family-friendly even during the day.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring/summer 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Three stages with a total of around 46 hours of live music. Stylistic spectrum: Rock, Pop, Cover, Acoustic, Soul, Funk, Dance Hits. The specific band selection will be published before the festival date on the organizer's website and in the official program flyer.
