Tradition around Grumbach Castle since 1991
The Rimparer Schlossfest is one of the most traditional market festivals in the Würzburg district. It has taken place every year since 1991 on the first weekend of the Bavarian summer holidays around Grumbach Castle – a medieval moated castle complex, which is today one of the best-preserved castle complexes in Main Franconia. With the striking Greiffenclausaal, the Knights' Hall, the inner courtyard, and the Schlossberg, the castle ensemble offers an extraordinary festival backdrop.
In 2026, the Schlossfest coincides with the 900th anniversary of the market town of Rimpar. Rimpar was first officially mentioned in 1126. For this occasion, the festival is being expanded: additional performances, a special exhibition in the Greiffenclausaal on the historical development of Rimpar, and an extended event program "Celebrate like in the old days".
The festival is organized by Schlossfest GbR in cooperation with numerous local clubs. The program line combines typical Schlossfest elements: beer tapping by the mayor to open the event, children's program with carousel, Ferris wheel, and ring toss, morning pint concerts by local music clubs, craft exhibitions in the Knights' Hall, castle tours, theater performances, and a stage program on the Schlossberg and the Platz der Partnerschaft.
The Schlossfest is not a tourist medieval show event, but a real market festival for the people of Rimpar. The clubs are actively involved, the catering is predominantly local, and the music comes from the surrounding music clubs. This authentic club festival culture, which has been lost in many larger cities, has been preserved in the 9,500-inhabitant market town of Rimpar.
Rimpar is located about 10 kilometers north of Würzburg, on the B19 towards Mainfranken. The municipality consists of the main town of Rimpar and several districts (Maidbronn, Gramschatz). Grumbach Castle is located in the historic town center, in close proximity to the parish church and the town hall. The town center is closed to traffic during the Schlossfest.
The 2026 Schlossfest coincides with the 900th anniversary of the market town. Organizers Schlossfest GbR and the market administration of Rimpar have expanded the program accordingly: additional performances, a special exhibition on historical depictions of Rimpar in the Greiffenclausaal, and an expanded morning pint and stage program.
