Traditional folk festival market under chestnut trees in the Südpfalz region
The Rheinzammer Markt is one of the oldest folk festivals in the Jockgrim administrative district and a firm fixture in the Südpfalz summer calendar. The old chestnut trees in the town center provide shade and create the typical beer garden atmosphere for which the festival is known beyond the region. Anyone who sits here on a summer evening quickly understands why the festival has been a must-attend event for generations for the people of Rheinzabern and their neighbors.
Over four days, the market combines classic festival elements: a festival tent with live music and DJ sets, market stalls with regional products, food stands run by local clubs, and a compact amusement park with a children's carousel, shooting gallery, and candy stalls. Palatinate cuisine is at the heart of it all – Saumagen, Bratwurst, Flammkuchen, Leberknödel, and of course, the wine from the surrounding vintners.
As with all major Palatinate festivals, the local clubs are the driving force. Sports clubs, the fire department, music associations, and carnival societies run stalls, provide catering, and contribute program items. This volunteer base guarantees both continuous service and the family-friendly atmosphere that professional folk festivals cannot replicate.
Rheinzabern is located on the B9 federal highway between Karlsruhe and Speyer, easily accessible via the Wörth–Germersheim railway line. During the market, parts of the town center are closed to car traffic; visitor parking is available on the outskirts. Those arriving by train can reach the festival grounds in a few minutes' walk from the station.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: keg tapping on the opening evening, family afternoon with reduced carousel prices, morning pint with brass music on Sunday, and a musical closing program at the end of the festival.
The complete 2026 program will be published by the organizer at rheinzabern.com.
