RheinVokal 2026 – Chanticleer in Andernach

RheinVokal is the largest vocal music festival on the Middle Rhine. Since 2008, the festival, organized by SWR and the Stiftung Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, has been bringing outstanding international choirs, vocal ensembles, and solo voices to special venues between Bingen, Koblenz, Andernach, and Bonn. The combination of top-tier vocal music and the acoustically resonant spaces of the Middle Rhine's medieval churches, castles, and monasteries defines the festival's unique character.

In 2026, RheinVokal runs from June 14 to August 30. One of the season's international highlights is the performance by Chanticleer on June 27, 2026, at the Christuskirche Andernach. Chanticleer is a twelve-member male vocal ensemble from San Francisco that has achieved global acclaim as the "Orchestra of Voices" since its founding in 1978. Awarded two Grammy Awards and a regular guest at Carnegie Hall and major European concert halls, Chanticleer is considered one of the world's finest a cappella ensembles.

The repertoire is exceptionally diverse: Renaissance polyphony by composers such as Palestrina, Lassus, and Victoria is featured alongside contemporary works, American folk songs, spirituals, gospel, and songs from the Great American Songbook (Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, and others). This stylistic breadth is characteristic of the ensemble and makes every concert a captivating journey through five centuries of vocal music.
