Traditional folk festival directly on the Rhine in the Worms district of Rheindürkheim with roots back to 1951
The Rheinperlenfest looks back on an unbroken tradition of 75 years. Founded in the post-war years as an initiative of the local clubs, it has developed into a fixture in the events calendar of the Worms districts. The name Rheinperle (Rhine pearl) stands for the geographical location of Rheindürkheim at a particularly scenically attractive point on the Rhine. The festival is organized on a voluntary basis by the Rheindürkheim Vereinsgemeinschaft, in which the local club structure is bundled, in close coordination with the local council.
Unlike most Worms folk festivals, the Rheinperlenfest takes place directly on the Rhine bank — a location that gives it its special charm. At sunset, the festival ground offers a view of the river and the Rheinhessen hills; passing cargo ships and sports boats complete the backdrop. Festival tent, dance floor, stalls of the Worms and Rheindürkheim clubs, a stage for live music and a small amusement park are grouped around the central festival area.
The program is supported by the Rheindürkheim Vereinsgemeinschaft and gathers the Worms and Rheindürkheim club landscape: the music club opens the festival on Friday with a stand concert; the local dance and carnival societies perform; the Rheindürkheim fire brigade is represented with a show vehicle; the sports clubs set up hands-on activities for children. On Saturday evening, a dance or party band traditionally plays in the festival tent.
The festival catering offers Rheinhessen classics: Spundekäs with pretzel, Saumagen, bratwurst, steak in a bun, fries, plus wine from Worms and Rheinhessen winegrowers, beer and Spritzweinschorle. At the small amusement park, children can expect a carousel, bull riding, children's shooting gallery and a sweets stand.
The Rheinperlenfest is one of the first major Worms folk festivals of the summer and the prelude to a series of events that continues with the Herrnsheimer Kerb (August 3rd–5th), the Worms Backfischfest and the Worms district festival calendar. For the residents of Rheindürkheim, the festival is an important identification point and brings three generations together at the same festival ground.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Rheindürkheim Vereinsgemeinschaft in early summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
