Half a Century of City Festival

The Rendsburger Herbst was first organized in 1975 by the Rendsburger Verkehrsverein — since then it has been the most important city festival in the center of the town on the Kiel Canal. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 50th edition. The organizers, today's Rendsburg Tourismus Marketing GmbH, are planning special surprises for this occasion.

City Center as Festival Mile — Paradeplatz to Obereider

For three days, the center of Rendsburg transforms into a continuous festival mile. From Paradeplatz to the Obereider, stages, stalls, carousels, and food vendors line up. The festival activities are spread throughout the entire old town — a deliberately spread-out format that allows each quarter to retain its own character.

Family by Day, Party by Night

Programmatically, the Rendsburger Herbst is clearly divided:

• During the day: colorful family entertainment and cultural offerings from clubs and associations — hands-on activities, performances by local artists, regional specialties
• In the evening: the city center becomes a party mile, with live music on several stages and a lively atmosphere until late at night

'By Rendsburgers for Rendsburgers'

The organizers explicitly describe the Rendsburger Herbst as a festival 'by Rendsburgers for Rendsburgers'. This identity is not just a slogan: the program is significantly supported by local clubs, associations, and artists. For the 50th anniversary, the organizer is currently collecting memories from citizens — the best anecdotes, love stories, or club discoveries related to the festival will be incorporated into the anniversary program.

Rendsburg — Canal City with Festival Culture

Rendsburg is located on the Kiel Canal, the world's busiest artificial waterway, and with around 28,000 inhabitants, it is the most important town in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district. The transporter bridge, the railway high bridge, and the historic town center make the city a popular day-trip destination — the Rendsburger Herbst is the annual opportunity to experience city life particularly intensely over three days.
