Two Clubs, Two Villages
Sauingen and Ohlendorf are two small neighboring districts in the northern part of Salzgitter. Both maintain their own marksmen's traditions: the Schützenverein Sauingen, based at Üfinger Straße 2B, and the Schützenverein Ohlendorf in the neighboring village. Both clubs are members of the Kreisschützenverband Salzgitter and organize their Schützenfest annually – either separately or as a joint festival.
Classic Schedule
- Bird shooting (Vogelschießen) – Determination of the Schützenkönig/Schützenkönigin (King/Queen of Marksmen)
- Proclamation of the King (Königsproklamation) – with the awarding of the king's chain
- Festive Parade (Festumzug) – through the respective village with a marching band
- Festival Tent (Festzelt) – with dance evenings and live band
- Morning Pint (Frühschoppen) with brass band
- King's Dinner (Königsessen) as a social highlight
- Wreath-laying at the war memorial
- Marksmen's Service (Schützengottesdienst)
