Successor to the Love Parade – a political demonstration for peace and diversity
The Rave The Planet Parade was launched in 2022 by Dr. Motte – the co-founder of the original Love Parade (1989–2010) – and his team to revive Berlin's techno tradition. Unlike the commercially operated Love Parade, the Rave The Planet Parade is registered as a political demonstration: a demonstration for peace and diversity in the spirit of freedom of assembly.
In 2024, the Berlin techno scene was included in the national UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage at the suggestion of Rave The Planet gGmbH. The parade is a visible manifestation of this heritage: it aims to demonstrate that techno in Berlin is not just subculture, but part of the city's DNA.
The venue is the Straße des 17. Juni in Berlin's Tiergarten, between the Brandenburg Gate and the Großer Stern. Due to construction work in the western section until 2029, the parade currently uses only the eastern part of the street – the floats move in both directions between the two landmarks, creating a festival setting that can be experienced twice.
More than 300 international artists perform on around 25 floats and stages, regularly including stars such as Dr. Motte, Maceo Plex, Nicole Moudaber, Pan-Pot, Timo Maas, Gary Beck, and many more. The stylistic spectrum ranges from Techno and House to Trance, Acid, and Minimal.
The parade is free of charge – as a demonstration, it cannot charge admission. It is financed through donations, crowdfunding, and merchandise. The official aftershow party traditionally takes place at the Columbiahalle in Tempelhof. This makes the Rave The Planet Parade one of the few major electronic music events in Germany that are accessible to everyone free of charge.
The 5th Rave The Planet Parade will run on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The theme is "IMAGINE LOVE" – a conscious reference to John Lennon and the message of the original Love Parade. Originally scheduled for August 1, 2026, the date was moved due to overlaps with the Nature One Festival and Hamburg CSD.
Due to construction work in the western Tiergarten (until 2029), the parade will exclusively use the eastern part of the Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburg Gate and the Großer Stern. The floats will move in both directions between the two landmarks.
