Wittstock/Dosse — A Town with a Theatre Tradition
Wittstock an der Dosse is located in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, in the northern Prignitz region, about 100 kilometres northwest of Berlin. The historic town with its medieval city walls, St. Mary's Church, and Wittstock Castle boasts a rich cultural history. In recent years, it has established itself as an unconventional cultural destination in northern Brandenburg with contemporary cultural productions — such as the Pyrit Festival.
Pyrit Festival — Music and Dance Theatre
The Pyrit Festival is organised by the association ganz.kultur e.V. The focus is on contemporary music and dance theatre — productions that combine dance, singing, acting, and music into a total work of art. The 2026 production „Schwanensee — Schwanengesang" is based on Tchaikovsky's famous ballet, merging it with new vocal dramaturgy and choreographic interpretation.
Choreography Valeska Rein, Vocals Verena Rein
The production „Schwanensee — Schwanengesang" bears the signature of choreographer Valeska Rein. Verena Rein handles the vocal part. The Park Studios Company and its Junior Company perform the dance. The performances run on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at 7 PM and Sunday, June 14th, 2026, at 5 PM on the open-air stage at Amtshof Wittstock, Auf der Freiheit 10. Tickets cost €10 to €20; children and young people aged 4-17 receive a 50% discount. Relocation is possible in case of extreme weather.
Pyrit Festival in the Region
The festival uses several venues in the region — in addition to the open-air stage in Wittstock, also the Kyritzer Klostergarten in Kyritz. Tickets are available through the online ticket shop, at advance booking offices (Wittstock Tourist Info Tel. 03394 429 550, Kyritz Culture and Tourism Office Tel. 033971 85255), or on-site at the box office. A supporter ticket („Supporter") directly funds the festival's work and enables further programming in the region. Thus, the festival positions itself as a cultural enrichment for the sparsely populated Prignitz and the historically East Prussian-influenced northern Brandenburg region.
