Third Wildeshausen Pumpenfest on the first August weekend — City festival with live music, Sunday shopping, and a connection to the city's history
The Pumpenfest Wildeshausen is a young city festival that has quickly become a regular fixture on the city's summer calendar since its premiere in 2024. In its third edition on the first August weekend of 2026 — Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd — it will take place on the market square, along the Hunte river, Westerstraße, and the forecourt of the UZW shopping center.
The name refers to the historic Wildeshausen city pumps, which once ensured the city's central water supply and are now part of the urban heritage. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Wildeshausen, which has established a format where live music, local gastronomy, and Sunday shopping come together.
The Pumpenfest draws on the tradition of the Wildeshausen city pumps — historic water supply facilities that provided the city's drinking water until the 20th century and are now preserved as monuments. This thematic anchoring gives the city festival a clear local identity, distinguishing it from generic city festivals.
Saturday, August 1st, 2026, begins at 5 PM with the live music program on the market square. Local and regional bands will play into the late evening. In parallel, Wildeshausen's catering establishments around the market will be present with outdoor seating and special offers. The atmosphere is that of a downtown summer evening, where the city becomes a stage.
Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, runs from 1 PM to 6 PM and is organized as a Sunday shopping event. Market stalls along the Hunte river, Westerstraße, and at the UZW forecourt will offer arts and crafts, regional products, and special sales. Wildeshausen's retailers will open their shops, complementing the festive atmosphere with downtown businesses.
Stadtmarketing Wildeshausen coordinates the Pumpenfest in collaboration with retailers, gastronomy, and volunteers. Applications for market stalls are accepted via the city's online form — an accessible way for local vendors to participate in the festival. Stadtmarketing is also responsible for the Wildeshausen SommerKultur and its counterpart to the volunteer exchange, EhrenamtLive.
The third edition of the Pumpenfest Wildeshausen will take place on the first August weekend of 2026: Saturday, August 1st, with live music and gastronomy on the market square starting at 5 PM, and Sunday, August 2nd, from 1 PM to 6 PM with market stalls along the Hunte river, Westerstraße, and at the UZW forecourt, as well as a Sunday shopping event by Wildeshausen retailers.
The festival draws on Wildeshausen's city history related to the historic city pumps. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Wildeshausen — applications for market stalls are accepted online at wildeshausen.de.
The opening takes place on the market square. From 5 PM, regional live bands will perform, and concurrently, the surrounding gastronomic establishments will open their outdoor seating areas with summer menus. The Wildeshausen city center transforms into a festival zone, kicking off the summer weekend.
On Sunday, the festival expands to other city center areas: market vendors will set up their stalls along the Hunte river and Westerstraße, as well as at the forecourt of the UZW shopping center. Wildeshausen retailers will open their shops as part of a Sunday shopping event. The program concludes at 6 PM.
