First Volksfest of the season in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck with Hacker-Pschorr Festbier
The Puchheimer Volksfest AUFTAKT is the first major Volksfest of the season in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck and in western Munich, in the state of Bavaria. The organizer is the city of Puchheim, and the festival host is Jochen Mörz. The name AUFTAKT itself says it all: while most other Bavarian Volksfeste only start in May or June, the Puchheim festival begins in early April, making it the "aperitif" of the Bavarian Volksfest season.
The festival opens on Friday at 6 PM with the traditional beer tapping. At AUFTAKT 2026, First Mayor Norbert Seidl will wield the tapping hammer for the last time before the end of his term. Afterwards, free beer from the Munich brewery Hacker-Pschorr will be served – a popular ritual that officially marks the beginning of the festival.
On the first Saturday, the traditional festival parade always takes place: brewery horses from the Hacker-Pschorr brewery pull the festival floats, accompanied by the Stadtkapelle Germering, the Blasorchester Puchheim, and the drum and bugle corps of the Unterhaching volunteer fire department. The procession makes its way through Puchheim and ends at the festival grounds.
Festivities host Mörz's festival tent offers live music daily with changing bands from Bavaria, including regular performances by Zruck zu Dir, Volxxbeat, Manyana, and Nachtstark. In addition, there are classic Volksfest program items: Seniors' afternoon with coffee and cake, inclusion offers for people with disabilities, family days with reduced ride prices, and "Box zum Feierabend" (after-work package) deals for companies.
With its early start date, the AUFTAKT benefits from Munich's Volksfest tradition, which shapes the region between spring (Frühlingsfest on Theresienwiese, AUFTAKT Puchheim) and autumn (Oktoberfest, Auer Dult). Its location just outside Munich and direct S-Bahn connection (S4) make it a heavily frequented Volksfest.
From April 10 to 19, 2026, the Puchheim Volksfest grounds will be the scene of the AUFTAKT. Mayor Norbert Seidl will tap the first keg at 6 PM on the opening Friday – for him, this is the last time before the end of his term. Afterwards, Hacker-Pschorr free beer will be served.
The first Saturday, April 11, is dedicated to the traditional parade with the brewery horses of the Hacker-Pschorr brewery, the Stadtkapelle Germering, the Blasorchester Puchheim, and the drum and bugle corps of the FFW Unterhaching. Over the long weekend, several live bands will play in the festival tent; the festival concludes on Sunday, April 19, with the family program.
