The IKG – largest Karneval club in the upper Nahe

With around 400 members (up to 480 according to some sources), the Idarer-Karneval-Gesellschaft (IKG) is the largest Karneval club in the upper Nahe region and has shaped the Idar-Oberstein Karneval scene for decades. In addition to gala sessions, the IKG organizes the Rosenmontagszug (Rose Monday parade), the 'Dicken Donnerstag' (Fat Thursday) to open street Karneval, and several dance competitions like the Edelsteincup and the Rhineland-Palatinate state championships in Karneval dance.

Two Gala Sessions, each at 7:33 PM

The two grand gala sessions traditionally take place on two consecutive Saturdays, each at 7:33 PM – the fifth hour, a classic of Rhenish-Palatinate Karneval tradition. On stage, performances by the IKG dance troupes, 'Büttenredner' (comedians) from the region, singing groups, show dance ensembles, and guest performances from friendly societies alternate. The session's prince and princess are introduced, awards are presented, and the audience sings, laughs, and dances along.

Post-Show Party Afterwards

After the official session program, a post-show party follows, where DJ sets or live music transform the hall into a Karneval dance floor. The audience remains in costume in the hall, and many stay late into the night. The two sessions have been regularly sold out for years – tickets are only available in advance, now also online via Ticket Regional.
