Prunksitzung Hinterweidenthal

The Prunksitzung Hinterweidenthal is one of the traditional hall carnival events in the Dahn Felsenland. It takes place every year as part of the Palatinate carnival campaign – classically between the 3rd and 4th weekend in January, sometimes postponed depending on the campaign calendar. The venue is the gymnasium of TV Hinterweidenthal, which is transformed into a ballroom with a stage, rows of tables, and a catering area for the event.

Palatinate Tradition

The Palatinate hall carnival is strongly shaped by dialect and club life. Speeches in the Palatinate dialect form the core and satirically address local topics, club gossip, and municipal peculiarities. Dance troupes with their colorful uniforms, show dances, and musical interludes round off the program. The atmosphere is familiar and convivial – generations sit at the same tables, sway together, and sing the well-known Palatinate carnival hits.

Hinterweidenthal Profile

Hinterweidenthal, with just under 1,350 inhabitants, is located in the southern Palatinate Forest, on the edge of the Dahn Felsenland. The town is primarily known for the Teufelstisch (Devil's Table), a distinctive mushroom-shaped rock formation made of red sandstone, which is one of the most prominent natural monuments in the Palatinate. The promotion of club life is intensive in the village; the annual Prunksitzung is one of the most important highlights and regularly fills the gymnasium.
