Association festival on the Rhine promenade with a view of the Bonn skyline
When the Beuel Rhine promenade is bustling on the last weekend of August, it's not just peak tourist season — the Promenadenfest, Festival of the Beuel Associations, is taking place. On August 29 and 30, 2026, pavilions of the Beuel associations will line up from the China Ship to the little train station. The backdrop: the Rhine, with the Bonn skyline, including the Minster, Hofgarten, and University, behind it.
The Promenadenfest was re-conceptualized in 2022 as a "Festival of Associations." The format gives all Beuel associations the opportunity to celebrate anniversaries together — not individually, but as a joint summer festival. This saves effort, creates reach, and turns a series of individual festive acts into a large association festival with added value for everyone.
Behind the festival is the Association of Beuel Associations — IBV for short. It was founded in 2022 and brings together sports, carnival, heritage, partnership, and social associations from the Beuel district. Founding members include the Komitee Beuel-Mirecourt, which cultivates the town twinning with the French town of Mirecourt (Vosges) — recognizable at the Promenadenfest by a pavilion decorated with French flags, offering wine and cheese.
Each association designs its own pavilion — creating a colorful mix every year:
The event is accompanied by a small stage featuring contributions from associations, live music from the association scene, and dance performances.
The district of Beuel is located on the right bank of the Rhine, opposite Bonn's city center — until 1969, Beuel was an independent town in the then Siegkreis district. The Rhine promenade, with the China Ship (a floating restaurant) and the historic little train station, is one of the most beautiful walking stretches in the greater Bonn area. The Promenadenfest turns the promenade into the communal living room for the world of associations for two days.
The festival grounds are spread along the Rhine promenade from the China Ship to the little train station. Each Beuel association designs its own pavilion — carnival associations, sports associations, heritage and partnership committees find a common stage at the Promenadenfest.
