Männerchor Bachem 1904 e.V. — Over 120 Years of Tradition
Founded in 1904, the Männerchor Bachem 1904 e.V. is one of the oldest associations in the Bachem district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. The choir cultivates a classic men's choir repertoire ranging from folk songs and sacred works to modern arrangements, and regularly performs at church and secular events in the region. With the annual Pfingstwaldfest, the association has created a fixed social event in Bachem's community life.
Lourdeshütte and Lourdeskapelle
The Lourdeshütte in the Bachemer Tal is situated in a scenically attractive area on the edge of the forest. It is named after the nearby Lourdeskapelle, which is dedicated to the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes and is a popular pilgrimage site for the Catholic community. The combination of the hut and the chapel shapes the special character of the Pfingstwaldfest.
Whitsun Sunday — Communal Breakfast
On Whitsun Sunday, June 5, 2026 (or according to the Whitsun calendar), the Lourdeshütte opens at 11:00 AM for the communal breakfast. Bachem association members and guests gather for an extensive breakfast with rolls, cold cuts, cheese, jam, and coffee. The atmosphere is cozy and familial, characterized by encounters between regular guests and new visitors.
Whitsun Monday — Festive Service and Family Festival
On Whitsun Monday, June 6, 2026, a festive church service will take place in front of the Lourdeskapelle at 10:30 AM. The Männerchor will provide the musical accompaniment with selected pieces from its repertoire. Afterwards, the festival transitions into a family day with a children's program, culinary specialties, and musical entertainment. Bratwurst, cakes from the association's bakery, and drinks will be offered at moderate prices.
Bachem — Wine Village in the Ahr Valley
Bachem is one of the districts of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and is located on the Ahr Wine Route. The village is characterized by its vineyard locations, its historic buildings, and its active association structure. After the Ahr flood in 2021, Bachem has rebuilt itself with considerable commitment from its residents, and the Men's Choir's Pfingstwaldfest is an important date in the community's reconstruction calendar.

Event Schedule
Whitsun Sunday, June 5 — Communal Breakfast
From 11:00 AM, the Lourdeshütte opens for the traditional communal breakfast. Rolls, cold cuts, cheese, jam, honey, coffee, and tea are served at a shared table. The members of the Bachem association, their families, and guests from the Ahr Valley gather in a relaxed atmosphere. Throughout the day, there will be social gatherings, hikes in the Bachemer Tal, and intergenerational encounters.
Whitsun Monday, June 6 — Festive Service
At 10:30 AM, the festive service begins in front of the Lourdeskapelle. The Männerchor Bachem provides the musical accompaniment with selected works from its repertoire. The sermon and liturgical texts focus on the spirit of Whitsun — the sending of the Holy Spirit and the founding of the Christian community.
Whitsun Monday, Noon — Family Festival
Following the service, the family day begins at the Lourdeshütte. Bratwurst, steaks, and vegetarian alternatives are grilled, and cakes and drinks are served. Children will find play areas in the forest and on the meadow, while adults enjoy the social interactions and the view of the Bachemer Tal.
Whitsun Monday, Afternoon — Music and Wind-down
Musical performances by the Männerchor and possibly other associations characterize the afternoon. Socializing continues until early evening, followed by the end of the festival.
