Traditional Whitsun market in Timmeler Hafen with stalls, rides, and family program
The Pfingstmarkt at Timmeler Hafen is one of the typical East Frisian Whitsun events. The setting is the idyllic harbor backdrop of Timmel – the central harbor of the Fehn municipality Großefehn with its historic sluice systems and waterways. For four days, from Whitsun Saturday to Whitsun Tuesday, the market enlivens the entire harbor district.
On the market grounds, stalls with sweets, toys, household items, and regional products line up. Rides make children's eyes light up – a children's carousel, a swing boat, mini-rides, and depending on the edition, a Ferris wheel or a small high-rise ride. Snack stands offer East Frisian classics like fish rolls, grilled sausages, fries, and sweet treats.
Unlike the large urban Whitsun markets, the Timmeler Pfingstmarkt has a distinctly family-friendly character. Short distances, a manageable area, a relaxed pace. Parents can stroll with small children without worry, while the older ones enjoy a beer or punch against the backdrop of the harbor.
Parallel to the Pfingstmarkt, the Medieval Camp Gathering in Timmel takes place at the village pond (May 23–25), attracting additional regional visitors. The MS Gretje offers boat trips on the canals of the Fehn municipality. Anyone visiting Timmel at Whitsun experiences three events in one place – a packed festival program.
The market is part of a well-established Whitsun tradition that has attracted families from the Aurich district year after year. Compared to large city Whitsun markets, Timmel remains manageable – that's part of its charm.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by Großefehn Tourism in good time before Whitsun 2026. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Hafen Timmel, district of Timmel in the municipality of Großefehn, 26629 (Aurich district).
Saturday to Tuesday, May 23–26, 2026 (Whitsun weekend).
Free admission to the market grounds. Rides and stalls at individual prices.
Großefehn-Timmel is located between Aurich and Leer. By car via the A 31 and country roads. Parking spaces are signposted near the harbor.
