Traditional Pentecost fair with maypole, festival tent, and carousels in the Prüm region
The Pfingstkirmes Bleialf is one of the most traditional fair festivals in the municipality of Prüm in the western Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm. Over the Pentecost weekend from May 24th to 25th, 2026, the Eifel village transforms into a lively folk festival with a maypole, festival tent, carousels, shooting galleries, live music, and market stalls. The Prüm holiday region confirms the date for 2026.
Bleialf is located in the Schneifel foothills near the Belgian border and maintains a strong fair tradition, making the Pentecost weekend a highlight of the Eifel's festival year.
Pentecost, alongside Christmas and Easter, is one of the most important high holidays of the Catholic church year. In the Eifel region, this religious high holiday was traditionally associated with a Kirmes — a mixture of religious ceremony, secular market, and exuberant folk festival. The Pfingstkirmes Bleialf keeps this tradition alive and offers a program that appeals to all generations.
The festival days traditionally kick off with the raising of the Kirmesbaum (fair maypole) on Saturday. Similar to a Maibaum, the tree is decorated and erected by the village community using traditional poles and ropes — a spectacle that requires strength and skill and is followed with enthusiasm by the spectators.
On Pentecost Sunday, the day begins with a festive mass in the parish church. Afterwards, the festival grounds and the festival tent fill up. The large festival tent can accommodate several hundred guests and is the venue for catering, live music, and dancing. Bratwurst, Reibekuchen (potato pancakes), Eifel specialties, draft beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages are offered at festival prices.
Carousels, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and market booths line the festival grounds. Dance groups from the region showcase their choreography, and a DJ provides musical accompaniment on Sunday from 4 PM. Families will find children's carousels, lucky dips, and games — a classic folk festival with all its facets.
Bleialf is located on the edge of the Schneifel, one of the most impressive natural landscapes in the Western Eifel. The Pfingstkirmes is an occasion to get to know the region — hikes, nature experiences, and culinary discoveries in the surrounding villages can complement the fair visit.
