47th season of the traditional horse and hobby animal market with six market days from April to September
When the Horse and Hobby Animal Market begins on the third Saturday of a month from April to September at the Pferdemarktplatz on Kleiner Brückendamm in Burgdorf, horse lovers, hobby animal keepers, riders, breeders, dealers, and interested parties from all over Northwest Germany gather. The market is a well-established format with almost half a century of history — the 47th season will be celebrated in 2026. The organizer is VVV Burgdorf, which continuously develops the format, contributing to one of the most successful market initiatives in the region.
Six market days are spread across the season, each on the third Saturday of the month: April 18 (268th Market), May 16 (269th Market), June 20, July 18, August 15, and September 19. Market hours are from 8 AM to 1 PM — a deliberate limitation that has established the format as a classic morning market. The numbering of the markets (268, 269, and others) makes the history of the format visible — each market day builds on a long tradition.
The focus is on horses of all breeds and sizes, from ponies to heavy horses, as well as hobby animals — poultry, rabbits, small animals, pigeons. In addition, exhibitors present horse accessories, equestrian sports equipment, stable equipment, feed, care products, and much more. More than 150 exhibitors from all over Northwest Germany offer an exceptionally wide range that appeals to both professionals and hobby keepers. Over 10,000 visitors per season make the market one of the most important meeting points for the North German horse and hobby animal scene.
In addition to the classic market stalls, a lively family program has been established. Pony rides, a petting zoo, demonstrations, children's activities, and culinary offerings make the market attractive even for families who are not horse owners themselves. The relaxed atmosphere of a North German morning market — with market calls, animal sounds, the smell of hay and wood, coffee stands, and the aroma of fresh bread rolls — creates an overall experience that goes far beyond mere commerce.
Over six market days from April to September 2026, the Pferdemarktplatz on Kleiner Brückendamm transforms every third Saturday into a meeting point for horse enthusiasts, hobby animal keepers, and families. With 47 years of history, the market is one of the most traditional formats of its kind in Northwest Germany.
On each market day, visitors can expect the following structure:
