Shearing of alpacas and sheep, sheepdog show, farmers' market, and electro DJs at Bioland Winery Kuntz
Bioland Winery Stefan Kuntz in the Landau district village of Mörzheim has been operating organically according to strict Bioland guidelines for years. In addition to vineyards, the farm is home to an alpaca herd, which is shorn annually between May and June before the warm summer months begin. The winery has turned this agricultural occasion into a festival, now in its fifth edition, attracting families, animal lovers, and gourmets from all over the Südpfalz region.
The highlight is the alpaca shearing – an impressive spectacle where experienced shearers free the long-haired animals from their thick fleece within minutes. The animals are gently restrained and released immediately after shearing. Sheep shearing will also be demonstrated. Accompanying explanations will provide information on wool processing, animal husbandry, and the importance of shearing for the animals' well-being. A sheepdog show demonstrates the impressive cooperation between dog, shepherd, and flock.
Regional producers will present Palatinate specialties at the farmers' market: cheese, sausage, honey, jam, bread, ice cream, and of course, wines from the Bioland winery. For children, there will be tractor rides around the farm, hay jumping in the straw, opportunities for petting the animals, and craft activities. The farm café will offer coffee, cake, and small snacks.
A special feature distinguishes the Palatinate Alpaca Shearing Festival from classic farm festivals: On Saturday evening from 6 PM, the Ohral DJs Hardy Heller and Alex Connors will play electronic beats, and on Sunday evening, the Mash Revival with DJ Tom and Nadine will take over. Thus, the farm transforms into an open-air dance floor in the evening – an unusual but successful contrast to the daytime family program.
The festival combines farm romance with modern joie de vivre, Bioland philosophy with DJ sets, and family entertainment with adult fun. Those who love animals, nature, wine, and electronic music will find an extraordinary Pentecost weekend here.
The fifth edition of the Palatinate Alpaca Shearing Festival falls on Pentecost weekend, May 23 to 24, 2026. The festival is hosted by Bioland Winery Stefan Kuntz in Landau-Mörzheim, which has been combining organic farming with animal husbandry and viticulture for years.
The festival concept merges two worlds: during the day, a family and nature experience centered around animals, a farmers' market, culinary delights, and wine – and in the evening, open-air electro with DJ sets that transform the winery into an extraordinary dance floor. A Palatinate answer to the classic farm festival.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
