The Family Gathering of Dark Electronics
The Out Of Line Weekender sees itself as the annual reunion of the European scene surrounding Dark Electro, EBM (Electronic Body Music), Industrial, Synth-Pop, and Post-Punk. Since its first edition in 2004, the festival has become one of the most important meeting points for these genres in the German-speaking world, attracting guests from Scandinavia, Great Britain, France, Belgium, and all of Central and Eastern Europe to Berlin.
Organizer: Out Of Line Music
Behind the festival is the Berlin-based label Out Of Line Music, one of the world's best-known labels for dark electronic music. The festival is, so to speak, the annual flagship of the label's catalogue: the stage features both label-owned acts like Aesthetic Perfection and Chrom, as well as guest stars from the genre.
Astra Kulturhaus and the RAW Grounds
For years, the venue has been the Astra Kulturhaus on the RAW grounds at Revaler Straße 99 (district of Friedrichshain, borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg). The historic industrial hall has a capacity of around 1,500 and has become a central venue for Berlin's dark electronic scene. The RAW grounds – a former railway repair workshop – are now one of Berlin's most famous nightlife areas.
Profile and Audience
The festival covers a broad spectrum of dark electronic music over three days:
- Industrial – hard, rhythmic electronic music
- EBM (Electronic Body Music)
- Synth-Pop – melodic electronic music
- Dark Electro – dark electronic music with Goth influences
- Post-Punk
- Electro-Avantgarde
The audience is international, ranging from long-time scene veterans to young Berliners who use the festival as a stage for their looks and subculture.
