Christmas market on Kirchplatz in the historic town centre — 3rd Advent weekend — December 11th to 13th, 2026
The Otterndorf Star Market is one of the most atmospheric and beautiful Christmas markets in the district of Cuxhaven. The venue is Kirchplatz in Otterndorf's historic old town, in front of the baroque town church. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Otterndorf.
The 2026 edition is the 18th edition. It takes place from Friday, December 11th to Sunday, December 13th, 2026 — on the traditional 3rd Advent weekend. The opening hours:
The focus is on craft stalls: regional artisans, craftspeople, and associations present Advent decorations, arts and crafts, jewellery, gift ideas, and homemade items. Accompanying this, regional choirs perform Christmas carols — a contemplative acoustic accompaniment in an atmospheric Kirchplatz setting.
For children, there is a children's carousel and a visit from St. Nicholas, who walks through the market and distributes small gifts. This clearly positions the Star Market as a family Christmas market.
The baroque marsh town of Otterndorf has a special charm in Advent. The historic burgher houses, the town church, and Kirchplatz with its fairy lights and fir trees create an unusually dense Christmas atmosphere — ideal for an Advent outing with the whole family.
The exact 2026 programme will be published by Stadtmarketing Otterndorf in late autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Kirchplatz, 21762 Otterndorf. Via the A 27 (Otterndorf exit). Train connection Otterndorf station, from there walk to the old town.
Free admission. Food, crafts, and carousel are subject to a charge.
Contact: Imke Lütjen, 04751-919135. Tip: Visit on Sunday afternoon with the children — St. Nicholas is usually around at this time.
