Tradition on Palm Sunday
The Osterhofen Rosstag is among the most well-known traditional events in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf. Every year on Palm Sunday, the town centre of Osterhofen transforms into a stage for horses, carriages, and old crafts. The festival stands for tradition, community, and joie de vivre, attracting visitors from the entire region.
The Grand Parade
The heart of the Rosstag is the grand parade of carriages and coaches. At 1 p.m., the procession sets off from Altenmarkt towards the town centre. Around 50 festively decorated coaches, riders, and walking groups present traditional crafts and historical professions. Powerful heavy horses and carriage horses, which are harnessed in Altenmarkt beforehand, dominate the scene.

With up to 10,000 visitors, the Rosstag is one of the major spring events in Lower Bavaria. It combines rural traditions with a shopping experience and makes old craftsmanship skills tangibly alive.
Rosstag Osterhofen — edition 2026
On Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, the town of Osterhofen invites you to the traditional Rosstag. From 9 a.m., the large market in the town centre opens with Sunday opening hours. From 10 a.m., a horse show will take place in the Vorstadt. The highlight is the grand parade of carriages and teams, which moves from Altenmarkt towards the town centre at 1 p.m. – around 50 decorated coaches, riders, and walking groups present old crafts and historical professions. Bavarian Product Queens will be guests.

Getting There
Osterhofen town centre, Stadtplatz, 94486 Osterhofen. By car via the A3 (Hengersberg exit) or the B8. Osterhofen train station on the Passau–Regensburg line.
Admission
Admission to the market and parade is free.
Tip
The market opens at 9 a.m., the horse show at 10 a.m., and the parade starts at 1 p.m. from Altenmarkt. Early arrival is recommended.
