North German Tradition on the Bodden

The Osterfeuer has a long tradition in Northern Germany: a communal fire in spring that symbolically burns away the winter and celebrates the transition to the brighter half of the year. In Klausdorf on the Bodden, this tradition is hosted by the Volunteer Fire Brigade on the village square — a day each year when the village comes together.

Fire Brigade and Youth Fire Brigade

The Osterfeuer is one of the central club events for the Klausdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade. While the active brigade is responsible for safety, fire protection, and building the woodpile, the youth fire brigade takes care of the social aspect: bratwurst, drinks, stick bread over small fires, and cocoa for the younger guests.

Atmosphere on the Village Square

It starts in the late afternoon, and the large bonfire is traditionally lit at dusk. The village square is in the center of the community, within walking distance of the Vorpommernhus on Prohner Straße. The festival is small, regional, and designed for social interaction — not a mass event, but a village evening with a campfire atmosphere.

The municipality of Klausdorf includes the Osterfeuer in its event calendar; the exact dates are communicated by the Klausdorf Fire Brigade on feuerwehr-klausdorf.de and on village notice boards. In the spring program, the bonfire is listed alongside the Easter market at the Vorpommernhus and other events.
