Six weeks of political cabaret under the motto "... when you laugh DESPITE it!" at the Lagerhalle
The Osnabrück Cabaret Festival is an institution of the North German cultural scene. For almost four decades, the Lagerhalle Osnabrück has organized the festival, which now radiates from the city to Bremen, Münster, and Hanover. The 37th edition will use the two stages of the Lagerhalle – the large main stage and the intimate Spitzboden – from October 29 to December 3, 2026.
The motto references a well-known Erich Kästner quote and makes a statement: Satire as a democratic force in a time of political polarization. The program selection reflects this claim – political cabaret, socially critical stand-up formats, and chansons stand side by side on equal footing.
The Hamburg-based cabaret artist Katie Freudenschuss opens the festival with her current program. Known for her blend of precise observation, musical elegance, and sharp wit, she is considered one of the most distinguished voices of her generation.
The main stage offers space for major solo programs. The Spitzboden, with its intimate atmosphere, is suitable for more experimental formats, young talents, and smaller productions. This programming allows the festival to showcase established artists and newcomers concurrently.
With 37 years of history, the Osnabrück Cabaret Festival is one of the most traditional festivals of its kind in Germany. It serves as a springboard for young artists and is a regular venue for the established cabaret scene. The Lagerhalle, as the venue, sees itself as a cultural anchor in the west of Osnabrück and curates the festival with the aim of fostering satire as a form of social discourse.
The 37th edition features a mix of established voices and younger talents. The motto responds to the political situation and emphasizes the democratic value of satire.
