Chamber music in one of Brandenburg's most beautiful Baroque complexes
Oranienburg Palace is one of Brandenburg's oldest and most significant Baroque palaces. It was built starting in 1651 for Louise Henriette of Orange-Nassau — the wife of Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg — and gave the town its name. After war damage, use as a police academy during the GDR era, and extensive restoration, the palace today showcases rooms detailing Hohenzollern history and a collection of princely art. The concert venues — the Festival Hall and the Hall of Mirrors — offer an acoustically and visually exceptional backdrop for chamber music.
For years, Schlosskonzerte Oranienburg e.V. has organized a continuous concert series from spring to winter. The association is supported by the Brandenburg Ministry for Science, Research and Culture, as well as regional partners. The 2026 program includes seven concerts between March and December featuring fifteen professional artists — including the Freyja Quartet, sopranos such as Elisabeth Grümmer and Anastasia Grishutina, and specialists in early music.
The 2026 season ranges from Spanish composers for soprano, flute, and harp (June 13-14) to works by Glinka, Ibert, and Poulenc for winds and piano (September 6), string quartet classics by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Ravel (October 4), song cycles by Schumann and Russian composers (November 8), and a Baroque-Renaissance evening with readings on December 12-13. Each concert evening brings its own universe of music to the palace halls.
Oranienburg is accessible by S-Bahn line S1 from Berlin in about 50 minutes. Concerts usually start at 4 PM — an elegant way to frame a day in northern Brandenburg: visit the palace and park in the morning, attend the concert in the afternoon, and enjoy a café or restaurant in the old town in the evening. Tickets cost €22 for regular admission and €17 for concessions. A well-designed piece of Brandenburg's cultural life, creating its own atmosphere beyond Berlin's concert halls.
