About Oppenheimer Kultursommer

In June, the Staufen-era Landskron castle ruins high above Oppenheim open their gates for three special cultural evenings. The Oppenheimer Kultursommer 2026 offers a concentrated programme of political cabaret, Celtic folk music, and classical castle theatre on the unique open-air stage of the castle. Confirmed acts include: the cabaret show Real/Fake by Tobias Mann on June 12th, the Celtic Fire Night with Dhalia's Lane on June 13th, and the theatre production Don Juan on June 19th. Three evenings, three genres, one breathtaking backdrop above the Rhine valley.

For years, the Landskron castle ruins have been one of the most beautiful open-air venues in Rheinhessen. Built in the 13th century by the Staufers, later partially destroyed and eventually becoming ruins, the complex high above Oppenheim today offers a spectacular setting for cultural events with its stone towers, walls, and courtyards. The city of Oppenheim uses this atmosphere for its continuous cultural programming, concentrating special highlights in the summer as the Oppenheimer Kultursommer.

The 2026 edition includes three confirmed dates in June:

On Friday, June 12th, 2026, comedian Tobias Mann will perform with his show Real/Fake. Mann is one of Germany's most prominent political satirists, regularly appearing on ZDF and the regional ARD channels. In his shows, he addresses the political, social, and media shifts of the present day. Real/Fake explores the tension between actual reality and manipulated, staged, or fabricated narratives.

On Saturday, June 13th, 2026, the Celtic Fire Night with the band Dhalia's Lane will follow. The group plays traditional Irish and Celtic Folk with modern accents – fiddles, whistles, bodhrán, guitars, bass, and vocals merge into music that oscillates between meditative depth and driving danceability. Combined with the castle backdrop and atmospheric lighting, the evening promises an extraordinary experience.

On Friday, June 19th, 2026, the castle theatre concludes with a production of Don Juan. The classic story of the seducer and his encounter with the stone guest will be performed in the castle ruins in a version specifically conceived for this location. The walls, towers, and courtyards become part of the scenography.

Tickets for all three events are available through the city of Oppenheim's online booking system. Advance sales have already begun. In case of bad weather, an alternative venue will be used.
