Three days of culinary diversity in the streets of Oppenheim with international food trucks and regional specialties
The Oppenheim Street Food Mile is one of the newer events in the festival calendar of the Rhenish-Hesse town and has quickly become a crowd-puller. The concept is simple: food trucks, catering stalls, manufacturers, and small gastronomy businesses from all over Germany gather in the historic center, present their specialties, and invite visitors to enjoy a relaxed feast.
The offerings cover the entire spectrum of the modern street food movement. Smoker trucks with Texas-style pulled pork and brisket stand alongside trucks with Asian bao buns, Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas, Lebanese mezze, Peruvian ceviche, South Indian dosa, and vegan soul food. Sweet stalls offer crêpes, Belgian waffles, Mexican churros, and homemade ice cream.
The regional cuisine also has its fixed place. Rhenish-Hesse vintners serve Riesling, Silvaner, and Pinot Noir, local breweries present craft beer and classic specialties, and farm shops showcase sausage, cheese, and bread classics from the region. The connection between cosmopolitan street food and the wine culture of Rhenish-Hesse is what makes the event so appealing.
Stages and DJ booths provide musical accompaniment at several points along the mile. Relaxed acoustic music dominates during the day, while bands and DJs switch to more rhythmic sounds in the evening. Lounge areas with hay bales, beer benches, and small tables invite visitors to linger.
Embedded in the historic setting of half-timbered houses, the Gothic main portal of the Katharinenkirche church, and the steep alleys leading to the castle ruins, the Street Food Mile becomes a sensory experience that goes far beyond just eating. The event is part of a conscious program by the city of Oppenheim to revitalize the city center with young, cross-genre festivals.
The 2026 program continues the successful concept: culinary diversity, regional wines and beers, musical accompaniment during the day and in the evening, and a family-friendly atmosphere in the medieval setting of Oppenheim's old town.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the city of Oppenheim in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
