About Olewiger Weinfest
Olewig, today an eastern district of Trier, was an independent wine village for centuries and was only incorporated into the city in the 20th century. The old winegrower farms, courtyards, and cellars still shape the village's appearance today. During the wine festival, numerous Olewig winegrowers open their gates, serve their own wines, and offer regional specialties. This mix of a courtyard festival and a street festival gives the Olewiger Weinfest its special authenticity – in contrast to purely urban wine festivals.
Olewiger Straße is closed to car traffic and equipped with stages, seating areas, wine stands, and snack offerings. Several live bands play regional music, Schlager, rock classics, and cover versions in the evenings. During the day, the focus is on family entertainment with games, hands-on activities, and a children's carousel. The highlight is the crowning of the Trier Wine Queen on the main stage – a traditional ceremony with a long history that receives attention from across the region every year.
The festival primarily attracts a regional audience from Trier, the Trier surrounding area, Saarland, and Luxembourg. Admission is free; payment is solely by consumption. Traffic management is generous, with park-and-ride options from peripheral parking lots.
Olewiger Weinfest — edition 2026
The 2026 edition coincides with Trier's World Heritage anniversary year, without being programmatically dominated by it. The character of the festival remains traditional and winegrower-driven. Olewiger Straße will be closed to vehicles from the afternoon of July 31 and equipped with a main stage, wine stands, food trucks, and seating areas. The farm shops of numerous Olewig wineries will open concurrently.
Programme Olewiger Weinfest 2026
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
- Friday, July 31, 2026, from afternoon: Opening and tapping ceremony with the Trier Wine Queen. First live bands on the main stage.
- Saturday, August 1, 2026, from afternoon: Family program during the day, full program with live bands in the evening, open winegrower courtyards.
- Sunday, August 2, 2026: Crowning of the new Trier Wine Queen on the main stage, a ceremony with the city leadership and Olewig winegrowers. Live bands in the evening.
- Monday, August 3, 2026: Wind-down with live music and the last open winegrower courtyards.
- Wine: Riesling, Elbling, Pinot blanc, and Pinot noir from Olewig winegrowers.
- Gastronomy: Flammkuchen, wild boar sausage, cheese, regional specialties.
